SEPTEMBER 2007 HIGHLIGHTS

The month of September is always a good time for migrating species and in the Camargue we have our share of interesting and rare visitors in addition to the resident species that are yet to leave. Here are some of the highlights I have seen over the past month.

12th - 9 Black Stork feeding in field on Mas de Tourtounel
Greater Bittern in lagoon adjacent to Etang de Vaccares
Little Bustard in field north of Le Sambuc

14th - 15 Little Bustard, Black eared Wheatear, Spectacled Warbler on La Crau

16th - White Stork in field north of Saint Cecile
Broad billed Sandpiper on Etang du Fangassier

17th - Great Spotted Cuckoo (juv), Wryneck at Peau de Meau in Crau

19th - Collared Flycatcher, Caspian Tern, Quail on Digue de la Mer

20th - Red necked Grebe, Caspian Tern at Etang des Aulnes

23rd - Purple Swamphen at Etang de Scamandre

30th - Short toed Eagle, Alpine Swift at Tarascon
