PRATS DE MOLLO DECEMBER 2007

We decided to take a brief 2 day trip to the easternmost section of the Pyrenees and used the village of Prats de Mollo as our base. The weather was superb over the 2 days with no wind and bright sunshine. Here are the highlights of the birds we saw.

Wednesday 5th -

Bonelli's Eagle - single adult soaring over village
Crested Tit
Griffon Vulture - pair soaring over peak close to village

Thursday 6th -

Nuthatch
Short toed Treecreeper
Dipper
Black Woodpecker - single adult seen flying through trees on Piste de Costabonne
Red billed Chough
Alpine Chough - several birds in chattering of 30 choughs
Sparrowhawk
Ptarmigan - single winter plumaged bird perched on peak at head of valley
Water Pipit
Firecrest
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Fieldfare - flock of 10 birds in trees in valley by Hotel Ribes road
Citril Finch
Tawny Owl - calling from trees in valley opposite the village
